Time to Come Home

It's been a fun week, but it looks like it's time to get mailed home.

That's the post office in Strasburg, VA. My last view before they tucked me in the
envelope.

It was a good time this week, but I'm looking forward to getting back to Wisconsin.

Wonder where I'll go next...

Movie Sound

A few years ago, Larry filmed a movie called The Mini. It takes a long time to get a movie finished, so he is still working on it.

Today he had to go in and record some sound. Sometimes, when you film outside, the microphone doesn't pick up the sound as well as it should. Then, you have to come back later and record the same words in a studio. Kind of like singing along to a song, only you're talking! Then, an editor will put the sound together with the picture.

I got a good view of Larry in the studio.

At the Theater

Today, I got to go to Wayside Theatre in Middletown, Virginia. Larry is an actor, and he is doing a play there called The Diaries of Adam & Eve.

That's Larry on the left, me in the middle and Thomasin on the right. They play Adam and Eve in the show.

The theater is pretty old. It was built sometime around 1940. It used to be a movie theater, but they updated it in 1962 to do live plays.

It looks like doing plays is a lot of fun. Larry says that the hardest part for him is memorizing all of those lines! I believe it.

It takes a lot of people to put on a play. Tomorrow, Larry says I get to meet some of the people who work behind the scenes.

A Cabin in the Woods

Hello again! After a good night's sleep, and flattening out my folds, I was ready to explore!

I am staying in a cabin outside of the little town of Strasburg. That's me in the window!

Do you see the big hill behind the cabin? That is named Signal Knob. Larry told me that it got that name during the Civil War. A General climbed to the top and sent smoke signals to let his troops know where they should go next. A lot of battles were fought in this area, so people here know their Civil War history very well.

Tomorrow, Larry is going to take me to where he works. He's an actor at a little theater about 10 miles from here. See you tomorrow!

Backstage at the Theater

Have you ever seen a play? It turns out that what you see is only half of what's going on!

Today, Larry took me backstage to show me how a play works.

That's me in the make-up room. This is where Larry gets into his costume for the
play. He has to look older than he actually is, so he also uses this room to put
some white, gooey stuff in his hair that makes it look gray. Ychhh!

That's Natalie. She runs the show behind the scenes, making sure that we have all of the things we need and that we are wearing the right costumes.

There are so many other people - a person to make sure the lights come on, a person
to run the sound. They even have someone running puppets in the show.

I learned quite a bit today! Tomorrow sounds exciting, though. Larry did a movie
and he has to go do some work on that. He said I can come along.

Arrived Safely in Virginia

Hello! I made it to Virginia safely. Since Kelly's Uncle Larry has a computer, I thought I would blog about my adventures here for the next week. He helps me type, though. My flat fingers keep slipping through the keys!

I am glad to be out of that envelope! This was a long trip. Strasburg, Virginia is 815 miles away from Madison! Of course, I have traveled so much now that I am pretty much used to it.

It looks like it should be a fun week. We are in the northern part of Virginia, and we are very close to the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is quite beautiful here.

Well, that's all for now - I'm pretty tired. Tomorrow, I'll find out a little more about where I am staying.

PS - Click here to learn more about Virginia. You may find some of my Flat Stanley friends there, too!
